Generation 1

1. JOHN2 BARR 1 was born Abt. 1755 in Alsace-Loraraine, Germany1, and died 1808 in Hillsboro Highland County, Ohio1. He married MARY SPERRY1 August 10, 1784 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, daughter of THOMAS SPERRY and ?? CHRISTMAN. She was born Abt. 1760 in Shenandoah County, Virginia, and died 1810 in Hillsboro Highland County, Ohio1.

 Notes for JOHN BARR 

1. According to tradition he ran away from home when only 10 years old. After living in PA and VA, he finally settled near New Market, Highland Co, where there was a German settlement at that time.

2. He was entitled to the proportion of land allowed a private of the Continental line for the war. Richmond 26 Oct 1803. Received a warrant of 200 acres No. 5049 for the above. His mark. Neither John nor his children could read or write.

3. Surveyed for John Barr 200 acres of land on a military warrant No. 5049 on the water of the north of White Oak Creek--beginning as a sugar tree and white oak in the west line of the most southerlyfor the of Charles Lewis No. 3596 running north said line of W 9 17 poles to an elm and white oak in the line of John Boosi alias Booze No. 3960; thence north his line N 18 W 7 poles to an ash and a white oak.
